Dental public health DPH has been defined as the science and the art of preventing and controlling disease and promoting dental health through organized community efforts. Nigerian Association of Dental Public Health consists of dentists involved in the assessment of dental health needs and improving the dental health of populations rather than individuals. This group of dentists provides leadership and expertise in population-based dentistry, oral health surveillance, policy development, community-based disease prevention and health promotion, and the maintenance of the dental safety net. The secretariat of the Association is currently at University of Ibadan under the leadership of Prof. Gbemi Oke-  a professor of Community Dentistry at the institution.

Dr Michael Adedigba of the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in his capacity as the Chairman of the 2020 NADPH Conference Local Organising Committee, is inviting you to the 6th Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Association of Dental Public Health. The main theme of the conference is “Dental Services in Africa: Challenges and Prospects” while the sub-theme is “Challenges of Dental Services to Vulnerable Groups in Africa. This meeting will unite all dental professionals as it is a great opportunity to come together again to share knowledge and meet with Dental Public Health experts in Nigeria and beyond. It is a time to critically appraise the prospects and challenges of dental public health in Nigeria and Africa as at large.

The conference was initially scheduled to hold on Wednesday 25th – Saturday 28th, 2020 with an opening ceremony at Knowledge Park Main Hall OAU, Ile-Ife but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Association under the able leadership of Prof.  Gbemi Oke considered it a better option to hold the conference virtually. The LOC had to modify the activities initially outlined for the event and by doing so, the Pre-Conference Workshop, visit to Dental Museum, Luncheon among other activities are shelved since the meeting will now hold virtually. NADPH has called for papers and has electronically accepted power point and abstract submissions which closed on 28th, February, 2020. An important advantage of presenting data at a conference in comparison to publishing them in a journal paper is that feedback and critical evaluation can be given immediately.
