To ensure an improved oral health care among school children, former Miss Tourism, Ms. Tomi Salami, has called on Nigerian children to always brush twice daily even as she donated tooth brushes, pastes and dental floss to secondary schools in Surulere area of Lagos.

Salami described tooth ache as the most common cause of oral pain and several investigations emphasise that tooth and oral disease directly influence quality of life. Salami who made the donation through her Foundation, Aurora International Charity Foundation, AICF, under its project tagged: Dental Drive, said the initiative was aimed at promoting proper care of the teeth among secondary school students.

She said the programme was also designed to prevent oral disease as well as create awareness on dental issues via educational campaigns and sessions. She said dental drive is designed to reach out to as many secondary school students as possible because they are very impressionable and young.

Addressing the students on how to take proper care of their teeth, a Dentist from Procter and Gamble, makers of Oral B tooth paste, Mrs.  Ayo said brushing the teeth twice daily is not only to protect the teeth but to prevent mouth odour and make the teeth last longer.”
